Localization is a team effort between the developer and the translator. This talk will cover what to be aware as an developer, and suggest an overall workflow that works well for both developers and translators. Examples in gettext, but this talk will not focus on how to use a specific localization tool. The ideas behind the talk would be usable in other localization scenarios as well.

Objectives

This talk aims at providing the developers the point of view of the translators, and understanding what kind of information a mind set that would help the translators. At the end of the talk, the developers should be able to make a more informed decision for their localization strategy.

Abstract

Localization is a team effort between the developer and the translator. This talk will cover what you need to be aware as an developer, and suggest an overall workflow that works well for both developers and translators. Examples would be given using gettext that django supports, but will not focus on how to use a specific localization tool. Instead, this talk will focus on what to keep in mind during development and localization, and the ideas behind the talk, such as how to use VCS with localizationm would be usable in other localization scenarios as well.
